Manchester to Rome - why no decent flights?

Hello, Travel Moneysavers,
I've been trying to sort out a trip for my friend and I to Rome, just for a few days at the end of August or beginning of Sept. I know Rome's not exactly the cheapest of places, but I can't find many flights flying from Manchester, and when I do they're very expensive for a student budget  , especially considering accommodation needs to be paid for.
I could fly from Liverpool, but the main airline from there, Ryanair, has quite obscure times for coming back so you wouldn't get many days out of your flights. It's very annoying! Does anyone know why this is, and any tips for getting around the problem?
Thanks!

Rome is more of a business than leisure destination so it tends to be schedule rather than charter carriers that cover that route.Does anyone know why this is, and any tips for getting around the problem?

When you hit that brick wall, search out operators that do city breaks because they will have (often cheaper) charter flights to those destinations.
Jet2 fly from Manchester to Rome Fiumocino and for a departure flight on 27th August - £29.99 there are returns on 3rd September at £59.00 or 4th September at £29.99.
If you take the cheapest options, the total cost including tax, bags, etc... is £126.61 return.
I'd say that's a bargain for an 8 night break!
And don't give up on cheap hotels in Rome. They are there if you look for them.0 -
if you manage to get a cheap flight (and good luck on that) have a look at bbplanet.it for accomodation. There are some little gems in Rome. We got one (ok the room was basic!) but it had a fantastic, enormous roof terrace with table, chairs and loungers (and plants and trees!) just for us!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

A little gem to add to my favourites list perchance? They're always appreciatedTravellingAbuela wrote: »We got one (ok the room was basic!) but it had a fantastic, enormous roof terrace with table, chairs and loungers (and plants and trees!) just for us!
I'll happily add my top tip for THE hotel with stunning views... Colosseum from your bath good enough?
