  • For fruit, you could try planting a blueberry bush. They need to be planted in ericaceous compost so they are best off in pots anyway. And they have lovely flowers and look good too.

    Get copy of Joy larkcom's Growing vegetables from the library and read the article at the back on growing salads for the hungry gap.

    There is loads you can plant now in pots

    Corn salad AKA lamb's lettuce aka Mache
    Rocket
    Mizuna
    Winter spinach
    Swiss Chard
    Perpetual Spinach
    Beets for leaves
    kales
    Indian and Chinese mustards
    Salad onions
    garlic
    Land cress
    If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
