  • Name of present? home made T-Shirts
Do you make it or buy it? A bit of both
    Total Cost? About a fiver
Details (the more the better) I bought some Fabric pens and let my 1 year old daughter loose on a plain white T-Shirt for my dad's birthday and he absolutely loved it and wears it with pride. It was just a load of scribbles but actually looked pretty cool! You could also do this on aprons and fabric bags. I bought the pens from the Early Learning Centre for £3 and you can buy white t-shirts cheaply anywhere (I think Tesco's do them for about £2)
Where possible please add a link if it's an online offer. The pens last for ages and so you could make one for each member of the family!
  • After seeing another thread with a link to Hawkins Bazaar I found this book and thought it would be ideal for all Money Savers....

Name of present? Mr Thrifty :money:
Do you make it or buy it? Buy It
    Total Cost? £2.99
Details (the more the better) This ingenious and invaluable book (standard paper-back, 224 pages) covers many interpretations of the idea of 'saving money'. One section, for instance, gives detailed advice on how to avoid paying for things which can be acquired free, or, where this is impossible, how to reduce the cost. Another section lists, with phone numbers etc, the sources of the best bargains in almost every imaginable field. And throughout it is thoroughly entertaining to read or dip into. Buy one for yourself, and at least one more as a present for almost anyone. Saving money starts here of course: cover-price is £4.99, but from us, it's only... £2.99

Where possible please add a link if it's an online offer http://www.hawkin.com/rkmain.asp?PAGEID=20670&STK_PROD_CODE=04241&XPAGENO=16

  • You can use this for any occassion. I did it (as well as a proper present) for my mum's 70th birthday from my two daughters. She loved it - probably more than the bought presents! Made her cry!!!
Get the children to decorate a small box (we used a large matchbox). We all blew a kiss into the box and quickly closed it so that the love could not get out. We then put a ribbon round it and on the tag put this poem:

"This is a very special gift, that you can never see.The reason it's so special is, it's just from for you from me.
Whenever you are lonely, or even feeling blue. You only have to hold this gift,
and know I think of you.
You never can unwrap it - please leave the ribbon tied. Just hold the box close to your heart. It's filled with love inside."

    The best present I know!
I say what I like, I like what I say!

I've done this in the past for small appreciation of small favours. if you know any young families that don't get out much, buy 2 cinema tickets and offer to babysit. Ok it can be over a fiver now to visit the cinema but many still have deals on set days and its gonna cost a tenner cos theres two, but its still a fiver each person, so qualifies for the fiver gift, me thinks?

name of present ... surprise package
    cost well under a fiver
    description

we have got a few of these. a shoebox filled with all the freebies we have doubled up with and as im lucky to live near a restore (recylcing place) i fill up childrens boxes with the toys off magazines that i get for nothing from here. I also get the shoeboxes from here and the wrapping paper ribbon etc.
The person receiving the parcel is thrilled to bits with everything inside and also it keeps the kids occupied for ages.
Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
    Are thinking of you today.
