Just thought of something else, I always use a glass when having water and not those non-biodegradable cup things
I also collect used stamps to give to charity - again boss won't play along not even by giving me the envelopes to take them off myself
And I'm always turning the tap off - it's broken but won't be fixed (it's been broken for 5 years now!!)Comping, Clicking & Saving for Change0 -
I always intend to do the stairs instead of the lift thing, but we're on the 7th floor and I hate the stairs - always feel like I'm going to fall as they're quite open and am convinced I will die there the second I stop concentrating!!!
I refill my water bottle each day and drink it out of a glass. The cups do get recycled but better not to use so many in the first place!
I collect used stamps too - noone seems to get it here. I do sometimes go into bins to get them out. Even if they just gave me the envelopes I could rip the stamps off while watching TV but no! Strange people.
I have a plant on my desk which is actually against the rules  but the powers that be only put a couple of crazy plants on the floor and I'm used to being surrounded by greenery - had four plants in my old job!
I print as little as possible but when your boss is dyslexic and can't read things easily on computers and receives LOTS of long documents that he needs to read, that isn't easy!!!
I keep a pack of Lidl 15p noodles in my cupboard in case I don't get round to making lunch so I don't have to go and buy expensive sandwiches
I keep thinking 'that's everything' and then people post things they do and I think ' Oh yeah I do that too'! It's second nature to me I suppose :A0 -
I have managed to persuade my staff to deep clean the mugs with a spoon of biological washing powder. They like the scum free cups. For some reason they have started mopping the floor with it instead of bleach, "because it smells nicer".
We also reuse the other side of A4 paper for scrap.
Also excess cardboard and plastic gets recycled.

At work, like most of you I reuse paper, I photocopy leaflets double sided (to save paper). I make a pot of tea instead of one tea bag per person (work in an office of 13), I get the others to give me their old glass jars for making chutney etc, and we have a lady who brings in eggs, and we give her our old egg boxes.A woman is like a tea bag. You never know how strong she is until she gets into hot water.:D0

I work in a pre-school which is a great place to recycle - we reuse everthing, insides of toilet rolls, cereal packets, paper gets drawn on both sides then shredded to make hampster bedding!:snow_laug HM Christmas 2010

I leave all the lights on at night, never switch my computer off and always use the lift, even in the event of a fire. I always overfill the kettle, staple everything twice, flush the toilet several times, leave taps running, and throw reams of unused a4 paper into the bin. Then I drive home in my 4x4, and always use the lowest possible gear to increase fuel consumption, stopping on the way to syphon petrol onto the road.0

there's always one
anyway the school where my mum works didn't have a recycling collection for ages and I kept telling her to try and get it sorted with the council but they didn't want to arrange it - so she used to bring her junk mail and other stuff home for our recycling bin .
then last year she managed to get the council to sort it out and she doesn't pay any more for the waste disposal because their normal bins are being collected less because there's hardly any paper in them).
I'm doing some casual office work at the moment and they all seem to print all their emails out - really don't understand the point of that.Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000

I can't face luggingit all home, and console myself that if there's no easily-biodegradeable stuff in landfill then the other stuff takes longer to break down - or am I kidding myself?
Sadly it doesn't work like that - the toxic stuff in landfill sites poisons the whole place and kills off any beneficial bugs that might have broken down the less nasty stuff. True, the paper will break down faster than the other stuff but it won't speed up the overall breakdown process. Much better to recycle or compost it and save space in landfill. Is there a council recycing bin near your work that you could take some of it to?
Just one of the fascinating facts I learned at the Centre for Alternative Technology in mid Wales.
My personal efforts:
* Set printers/copiers to print on both sides
* Use hand dryers instead of towels
* Use glasses/mugs rather than paper cups
* Organise a tea club and bulk buy coffee, tea bags etc to save money
* Order milk from the milkman rather than buying it in plastic bottles (not usually that much more expensive and much less waste) :A
* Persuade employer to install bike parking facilities and provide grants/interest free loans to buy bikes, helmets, lights etc (I believe there may be some kind of tax free scheme for this as well??)
* Persuade employer to make an arrangement with a local gym for membership discounts/corporate membership0 -
The company I work for has won awards for being eco friendly.
I work at home mainly so all my paper is recycled when I have finished with it, I try not to print stuff but sometimes I have a few minutes to spare between meetings and I can read reports etc then.
I do lots of company miles in my car and I just changed to a more economical diesel model, I also shop around for the best value when I need to fill it up.0 -
I'm very un-techy but have managed to work out how to print multiple pages in word. So, if I have to print a document off to read, I can actually squeeze 8 pages onto one piece of A4 by doing 4 to a page double sided. You can just about read it!
Apart from that I do pretty much all of the above.0
