Underpaid in the past

With meters not being read for ages I've significantly underpaid both my gas and electricity bills with British Gas :o.

Now my latest quarterly bills are for about £1.1K total at the new,, higher tariffs.

Is there potential for asking for a reduction since the gas and electricity was clearly not all consumed in the last month else we'd be all be cooked liked a well-done steak ;) ?

This was discussed last weekend on the BBC. At the time the rep from Energywatch (or whatever) said suppliers should recalculate the consumption and not just bill it in the last quarter (highest price). Don't know anyone who has done this.

I'm just about to try and will report back!

Thanks a lot for that info which I will include in my letter :).

Anyone else actually done this successfully? Any tips?

Who is your supplier. I have heard of Eon doing it but thats because they have had actual readings on their system which they didn`t use. It would be a good idea if everyone who isn`t already on a capped price to read their meter and ring up with the readings and also keep it safe if you know you`ve been understimated.
