the intermittent loud noise is caused by the water being pumped from the 'holding' water tank to the pressurized tank - basically internally there are 2 tanks, one for filling, the other is pressurised to force the steam out. My old steam generator had to be refilled by unscrewing a cap which released like a pressure cooker, had to switch off and refill when empty otherwise it was dangerous, loads of steam. This design lets you fill up as and when but the pay off is the pumping noise. Is a fab piece of kit, heaps better than my old one.0 -
Hi all. Have just joined this campaign after having a think about it.
My friend is on Tier 4, so didn't have to pay! Lucky thing! Am looking forward to receiving the iron now!

ahhhh bum rot!!!! I dropped from a tier 4 last month , so had to pay the £20James thinks worrying is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do, but it doesn't get you anywhere
If i help you...Please thank me! :beer:0 -
Yeah I'm back up to tier two (that boring book campaign knocked me down to tier one). This campaign is so easy to bzz about as most of us moan about ironing.
My sisster only signed up last week and she got the invite on Friday.Twins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j0 -
Mine has the pumping noise but also a rattle coming from the tank ,has anyone else noticed this .I am going to call the Phillips support line tomorrow not sure if it is a fault.0

Mine rattles when it pumps too.Twins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j0

Mine rattled at first too. I thought it smelled funny too (possibly like an 'electrical burning' smell) so I turned it off. After a few minutes I decided to have another go and turned it back on. It stopped doing it once it had 'settled down' and I used it. It's great. Really does make things easier. Glides over the creases, making them vanish.
It's supposed to 'rattle' when the tank isn't full enough I think. Otherwise I'm not sure... call Philips if you're worried. I wouldn't want to suggest you give it another try and stand back and monitor and be ready to flick the switch off and run, when yours really might have a fault......
Good luck with it.
I 'Bzzd' a few people about it, but I can't see me using the vouchers in their intended way, as even with £20 off, it's still more than most people would pay for an iron...
I'm chuffed with it though!

Is it mad to say I am in love with an iron?! Well I am!
This is the most fantastic thing ever. I do love a gadget but this is a real time saver too. Has anyone noticed that the steam buttons are a bit fiddly though? Perhaps they could have been a bit bigger or side by side?? Or is that just me??
Who knows, but the whole house are benefiting from me and my new hobby of ironing!
Oh and has anyone notice how quickly our Bzz is getting reviewed?? Over night for my last 2 reports! It's just a shame that the points are not getting credited to our accounts so quickly thoughIs it me or do the points all seem to have gone haywire? I was Tier 4, got knocked down to Tier 2 and just can't seem to get even back to Tier 3 now!
Happy ironing everyone!!My second favorite household chore is ironing. My first being, hitting my head on the top bunk bed until I faint.-Erma Bombeck-~ Member of the MSE Celebdaq Minileague ~0 -
The noise your getting is the iron taking the water from the tank and putting it in the pipe so it comes out when the button is pressed. This is totally normal for a steam generator iron HTHThanks for any help and advice given
