"Wedding present firm Wrapit says it is experiencing financial difficulties and is in talks with banks and advisers to avoid going into administration"
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7524530.stm0 -
Hello, My fiance and I are getting married in 3 weeks and have a giftlist with Wrapit. We have heard that Wrapit are going into administration and are devastated and embarrassed to have had to email our family and friends who have bought us gifts. We have closed our list but are very worried that we will not receive gifts and our guests will lose money. Does anyone have any advice?

The Wrapit showroom in Birmingham is still in existence although you do have to ring the bell to be let in. I was networking in there yesterday - they even offered me £50 to spend at Wrapit for each couple that registers a list with them (my intention is to pass this £50 to my clients).
No mention of them going boing.0 -
They can claim for their money back if they paid via credit card, but not if they paid by other means. Sometimes Visa debit cards will get the money back too (have read about this before occasionally).
As for receiving the gifts, according to other wedding forums even well before the company went into administration, people never received all of their gifts anyway, the reviews of the company are terrible, some people still waiting for most of their gifts a year or more after the wedding. Sadly, now it looks like no-one will be receiving any, it's a real shame for people who still chose to go with them, not what you need for your wedding!!0 -
Would wedding insurance typically cover this if they did go bust?
My brother took out a wedding insurance policy that covers suppliers going bust.
Would a wedding list company be categorised as a supplier for the wedding?
I think it would be hard for the insurance company to argue that they weren't.0 -
Our list is with them! All our guests bought off it. Does anyone know the position for themg etting their money back? They all bought online. As said on another thread about Wrapit today, they should be able to get their money back if they paid via credit card (from their issuer, not wrapit). Wrapit are well-known for not providing all the gifts purchased anyway (see other wedding forums, many complaints and bad reviews about them) so a lot of people have had to claim on their credit cards before as the gifts never showed up.0

I think that the gift supplier could be classed as a wedding supplier - it may be worth checking with your particular wedding insurance provider.0

Looking at posts on confetti forum, some people have already contacted their wedding insurance to find that gifts are not covered as they are not an 'integral part' of the wedding.0

Here is all the information I have gathered so far with regards to the Wrapit situation:
It appears Wrapit have been aware of financial difficulties since the beginning of this year- not impressed that they did not tell us this! Also, here is an article from May 08:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2008/may/31/planningyourwedding.consumeraffairs
They have also had to pull advertising from certain magazines in the last couple of months.
If Wrapit go into administration
Most guests that paid by credit card can contact their card providers for refund, though some providers say guests need to have spent a minimum of £100. Customers paying by debit card are less likely to receive a refund but guests should contact their bank to find out as I know of a couple of people who have been told they are covered.
For guests who cannot get a refund they will need to contact the liquidator to find out the process of getting money back but as guests are the 'bottom of the chain' so to speak, with regards to who wrapit owe money to, it is unlikely they will get any money back. It is advisable to ensure you have copies of all written correspondence should the liquidator find the director's personally liable/fraudulant, though this is very, very unlikely as they will most probably say they had problems but were tyring to resolve them.
If wrapit do not go into administration
Couples need to wait 12 weeks after they close their list. If there are any gifts not deliverd by this time there may be scope for guests contacting their card providers, saying they have paid for goods that have not been received. It is also advisable in such a case to contact Trading Standards and Citizens Advice Bureau for advice.
Whether or not they go into administration it seems unlikely that people will receive many, if any, of their gifts and it is unlikely that gifts will be received within 12 weeks. I have heard of a couple of cases where couples have initiated law suits against Wrapit. Some couples on this facebook group have reported receiving compensation:
Wrapit's wedding list service - worst customer service ever?
Some people have questioned wedding insurance as a way to get money back for guests. People need to contact their individual insurance providers but M and S appear to be agreeing to cover what credit card companies wont in the case of administration. Dont think this applies for undelivered gifts.
With regards to communication, it is virtually impossible to get through to anybody at Wrapit as they are not answering phones or returning calls/emails. Wrapit have posted this message on their website under 'latest news':

You may have heard or read that Wrapit is in Administration. This is not the case. However, we have encountered a financial difficulty due to the fact that our bankers HSBC have held £1m of our money which would otherwise have been devoted to fulfilling our orders. We are working with our advisers, KPMG to resolve this situation over the next few days and will make further announcements in due course. In the meantime, our showrooms will open by appointment only until further notice.

If you would like to advise your guests not to make any further purchases from your list, please alter your welcome message (or 'message to guests') on your Wrapit homepage to that effect.
Here is an article from the bbc posted in the early hours of this morning:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7524530.stm
The bbc are looking for someone who has used wrapit and had difficulties that lives in the London area to do an interview. They need a 'personal story' for it to make the main tv news. They have posted on the facebook group.
Here's hoping this all gets sorted and guests get money back. This is not what we needed 3 weeks before our wedding!!0
