  • Goa especially the south you will stay in Varca is a lovely place peaceful not overun with tourists like the resorts in the north. I worked there for 2 years as a teacher and had a wonderful time the people are exceptionally friendly and always smiling and helpful. You will find most of eating out facilities in and around Varca beach tends to revolve around the 5 star hotels. But do try the numerous beach shacks dotted along the beaches as they are excellent despite what the hotels say (as they want you to eat in their restaurants) the food is always fresh and prepared on order.
Do hire a car and driver it is an excellent way to get around and very cheaply too. Panjim the capital is also worth a visit and old goa.
It is a truly magical place hope you enjoy it

I agree with perkypeach about eating out. Try the beach shacks. I have been to goa 4 times and the shacks food has been excellent!
We also went to palolem and stayed overnight in a 'treehouse hut', shared showers and toilets but a great experience for £3!
Also try a trip to the spice plantation, very good. Your lunch is served on a banana leaf along with a shot of the local liqour (fenni, lethal stuff!)
Most of all just enjoy. Im sure you will have a fantastic time x
