Leading marine electronics manufacturer Garmin are offering one lucky reader an opportunity that money simply cannot buy. As proud supporters of Mike Golding and ECOVER 3, the winner plus friend will be flown out to enjoy the thrilling warm-up celebrations for the Vend!e Globe 2008, courtesy of Garmin.
Included in the prize will be return flights from a London airport on Friday 17 October and returning on Sunday 19 October 2008*. Accommodation will be provided for two nights at the Mercure Thalassa Les Sables d’Olonne. You will have the chance to experience the race atmosphere by going ‘behind the scenes’ with Mike Golding and his team, as well as having dinner with them on the Saturday night.
When racing, Golding needs to know he has equipment he can rely upon, so he has chosen Garmin. On board he has a GPSmap5008 touch screen chart plotter, complete with BlueChart g2 Vision cartography, a Garmin GMR18 radar and two GPS76 hand-held GPS for back up and his grab bag.
Mike Golding OBE has an extraordinary history – IMOCA World Champion in 2004/5 and 2005/6; FICO World Champion 2005/6; circumnavigated the world five times (three times solo); and was the first person to have raced round the world in both directions. Golding is determined to be the first British winner of the most demanding of all the trans-ocean races. “For me the Vend!e Globe is unfinished business,” he says. “It’s sailing’s equivalent to climbing Everest and this will be the third time I have taken part, so I am aiming for that top podium spot.”
For further information on Garmin, go to www.garmin.co.uk; for information on Mike Golding, go to www.mikegolding.com ; for the Vend!e Globe, www.vendeeglobe.org/en and for the Mercure Thalassa Les Sables d’Olonne, www.accorthalassa.com .
Closing date 31 July 2008
*The winner to cover costs for travel to and from the London airport, travel insurance and any other meals/expenses not included within the prize.
