Hi Everyone
I just wondered if anyone had any advice on how to generate a small income from websites? I am a mum at home with 2 little ones and have a couple of info-type websites that I have created and essentially maintain as a hobby at the moment. I'm creative, but not very techie - so have paid for someone talented to make them look professional and I just add bits and bobs.
Our funding for nursery doesn't kick in until January and we've moved, downsized and sold pretty much everything we can and so now I'm wondering whether I could perhaps use the sites to generate some sort of income and whether anyone on here had any good advice?
I don't get to post much - but did sit down to do this a few months ago and then didn't post it as I was worried people would think I was trying to 'advertise'. Also, sorry if this is in the wrong place - I wasn't sure where it would be best suited, but MSE is my Wikipedia so I had to ask here first.
I would just really appreciate it if someone could throw some useful links my way perhaps, so that I can read up on what I should or could doing with these resources.
Many thanks in advance

I didn't expect to get anything done today - and so far I haven't been disappointed.

You could try selling advertising space. Google have such a program:
https://www.google.com/adsense/login/en_GB/
I would imagine that amount of money you would make would depend on the number of visitors to your website.0 -
Stay at home mum. 2 little kids. Start a blog based on what you know.
Tips and tricks. Moneysaving stuff pertinent to other people in your situation. T
Start a discussion forum.
Sort out affiliate links and targeted advertising.
You'll have no shortage of visitors if you make it well enough and market it properly. You'd be making money and helping people out. People will want to keep coming back to a site that helps them. That's the important part, to keep people coming back. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -

You've basically got two options - adverts or affiliate links.
Adverts are self explanatory, the only thing I'd say is don't use overly intrusive ones - they'll put people off your website. As has already been suggested google's adsense is a good service.
Affiliate links also involve advertising but rather than getting a small amount of money every time a visitor clicks on an advert you'll receiver a bigger amount when a visitor clicks on your affiliate link then purchases something from the website you're linking to.
Amazon run a popular affiliate program - http://affiliate-program.amazon.co.uk/gp/associates/join/main.html
Depending on your website one of these may be more appropriate than another, but there's nothing stopping you using both.
The best way to style your website/adverts is so that they blend in to each other well - you will get a much higher click rate this way.Everyone needs a volume control -

Hi
Thanks for the link Marty J
I'll have a good read later on when I get a sec.
I'd heard of Adsense and is it Adwords? But didn't know which one was the best.
The main site gets lots of hits and the other 2 are secondary domains (I don't know the right terminology - sorry) - so I don't know if that makes a difference in search engines.
I'll find out.
Thanks again

That is a really good suggestion thanks.
I think I did have a blog page, but didn't really give it any wellie.
It certainly isn't an interesting read! LOL
Perhaps I'll do one about how new mums can put together websites whilst scraping yoghurt off their keyboards and mashed potato out of their hair!
Thanks again

Maybe that could be the title of my Blog!
Thanks for the advice - I am definitely going to look into Adsense.
I did have some affiliate links, but they have never come to anything. I need to really concentrate and get back in touch with how it all works.
I have contacted a company (as I haven't got the aptitude for a lot of this) who mentioned a Google site map. I'm happy to pay them to do this and they've said roughly about £100. It sounds fair to me. What do you think?
Many thanks
