Fixed Rate Bonds (1 Year)

I've been checking around and Birmingham Midshires seem to be about the best at 5.05%. Want to put in 20k for one year, is that the best deal around?

Certainly appears to be the best 1 year bond available a the moment. Dont know how long it will remain 'open'.
I am also looking around Hansi as in 4 weeks I have 1 year bond maturing with the Derbyshire which has been earning 5.35%. Have had this with them now for 2 years, each year a 1 year term, first year was 5.25% then was offered on its maturity 5.35% as a 'loyalty' rate. Think the chances of this happening again are pretty slim if not nil, so I too set the target for 1 year at 5%.
You do need to be pretty quick snapping up these bonds - the last one for me was Coventry BS at 5.15% which appeared and then closed in a flash.
