ARGH!! Help, can i transfer files from ipod to laptop

I had a major bug on my laptop and had to completely strip it and start again. Unfortunately I couldnt transfer all my music files to any mobile storage equipment and thought that as long as they were on my ipod, when i plugged it back in I could upload them. Unfortunately it wont let me.
Do you know anyway around it rather than adding all my cds back on, inc those which I have since sold on or music and podcasts downloaded which i may not get again.....

Yes, there are many applications that allow you to this. One of the easiest is YamiPod:
