HSBC error.

Hi, just wondering if anyone can give me some advice...

Yesterday I paid in £1500 into the deposit machine in HSBC. I have since checked my online banking and it is showing as £150!

I have the receipt from when I paid it in, however, there is a disclaimer at the top which says 'the amount paid in is subject to checking by the bank'

What should I do? I'm going to the branch tomorrow to complain but want to be prepared for the worst case scenario of them telling me they checked it and there was only £150. Will I have a leg to stand on?

Was it all cash? Sound like somebody missed a zero.
I'd go and ask the branch ASAP.

Their tills are probably out and may already know SOMEBODY is out.

You need to first inform the branch straight away. It could be that the Cashier who has processed your pay-in has accidentally miskeyed and not put on the zero's. If this is the case then the cashier will not of balanced that night and would of been over on balancing. It could be a genuine mistake and will need to be checked. Take your reciept with you too when you go. Don't worry, if you put it in the envelope then it won't of gone far.
Loan-£3600 only 24 months of payments to go!!!

  • I agree. Banks are very particular about checking everything balances at the end of each day. It's such a large amount that the red alarm will already be flashing. I'm sure the branch will be awaiting your call tomorrow armed with a big apology. It probably is just human error, and let's face it, it's easily done.

Try not to panic too much in the meantime. I don't suppose there's much point ringing the call centre, as the branch may not realise it's you they've fleeced.

Its not every day for many banks now. It can be just 2 or 3 times a week they will balance.

Thanks for the replies... I haven't bothered calling them, seems pointless. Hopefully it is just an error and it will be sorted. I can't help but worry though as it is a lot of money to me!

Help - HSBC possibly fleeced me of £1350!
I can understand you want to get it sorted, but that's a wee bit over the top surely?

It'll no doubt turn out to be common or garden human error, easily rectified. Especially since you still have the receipt.

Go to the branch and explain the situation calmly and show them the receipt as proof. But if it's simply rectified then why complain? Human error happens, we all do it from time to time. Bank staff are not immune, and they have procedures for picking these errors up.

Title edited. I got such a shock when I noticed it. Then again, I have had such trouble with HSBC in the past, I'm not sure why this surprised me.
