Trying to fix Hoover HCA390FFX fridge freezer that is too cold?

I have a 5 year old Hoover HCA390FFX Frost Free Fridge Freezer that stays too cold and freezes all the food in the fridge compartment.
The problem started a few weeks ago when I looked up and the 'super freeze' button was flashing, and I didn't put the fridge into super freeze mode.
The compressor just doesn't seem to shut off and go into defrost mode, there is a layer of frost and ice on the back wall of the fridge, and I am forced every morning to unplug the unit and defrost it manually to bring the temperature back down.
I have managed to locate the 'mother board' which is located behind the thermostat at the top of the fridge compartment. I pulled the assembly out but didn't see any burned or damaged components.
Do I need to replace the 'mother board'? Should I be looking for another component to fix?
Are there any probes or sensors that I should examine and where are they located?
Any help is appreciated....

It may well be something very simple, but unless you are good at DIY or can find someone to give you a free quote to repair it will cost you circa £50 for a call out.
At years old it may well be beyond ecconomical repair?
See here for spare parts . http://www.espares.co.uk/parts/fridges-and-freezers/hoover/hca390ffk/p/1084/107/0/538971"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

missile,
Thanks for your link! I just placed an order for a new thermostat and I'm going to install it myself. It makes more sense to replace a few inexpensive items first before calling out an expensive repairman.0 -
My mother had this problem with a LEC fridge , milk would freeze even though there was no ice compartment; it turned out to be a faulty thermostat.0

Success!
I ordered a thermostat from Espares and installed it after it arrived today. Now the compressor actually cycles off and keeps perfect temperature as it should.
Also, when I turn the dial to '0', the compressor turns off until I turn the temperature back up.
The temperature probe only cost me £5.99 and I didn't even have to call out a repairman.
Thanks for all your help!0 -
HELP!
I'm having the exact same issue with my Fridge Freezer. TeddyCo if your still there how exactly did you change temperature probe.
Anybody else have any ideas0 -
It must be the year for it. We too having the same problem with HCA fridgefreezer. We've ordered the part - any advice on how to install gratefully received.
As an aside- we stupidly called out a service man first who was quoting £122 plus to replace the monitor and even then couldnt guarantee it would work , so was suggesting a new fridge freezer.!
Hope this solves the problem!0
