Which Cards are best for me?

Hello,

I currently have 10k debt on Virgin 3.9% deal until mid-August, but I cannot get any extension to this deal. I was hoping to move it to a Egg 0% anniversary offer but this wont be happenening as I have had the account open too long, so I have closed this card with Egg.

I tried Capital One recently, but got the 6months deal with a 2k limit on purchases and BT, so have used this for purchases for the time being.

I am looking for a card (or 2) that will give a high limit, for either 6-12months 0%, or a life of balance card.

I have tried all my existing cards (all with 0 balances), namely HSBC (5k limit, no deals despite doing nearly all my banking with them), Natwest (1500 limit, 3.9% for 6months), and Virgin will do nothing until the balance is zero again. Perhaps I have kept these cards too long given they were doing nothing for me.

As to my general situation, I currently have a mortgage, a loan for £15k with Egg, earn £40k/year and never been in arrears/missed a payment.

Which cards/banks do you suggest I apply to for 0%/long term cards to make sure I am not killed off by the interest? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I would definitely advise you to close down your HSBC card immediately. This lender is not known for good existing customer offers, so the account is simply bumping up your available credit for no good purpose.

Judging from posts to this board, you'll not get a sufficiently high limit from life-of-balance cards.

To maximise the 0% period on BTs, 15 months is currently available to new customers from Halifax. A 3% handling charge applies ;)

You've got quite a lot of outstanding debt already so might struggle getting a new 10K card.... even with your salary and good history. I agree with moggles about your HSBC card though, get rid, it's a waste of 'available credit'. What about Barclycard? They do a 0% offer at the moment (or 6.9% LOB if over 5k)...... might be worth a look - after you've closed HSBC though.
