sellers says he didnt get his money

hi brought an item on ebay for £159 and sent a crossed cheque to seller, having checked my bank this cheque was cashed on 20/10/05 ,so I now was waiting on the item to be delivered. Then I get an email from ebay telling me that the seller has informed them he has not received payment for this item, the email was sent on the 22/10/05.When I brought this item I was told he would take a cheque .Can anyone let me know what happens now as I know I have paid for this and a crossed cheque can only be put in to the named account,I have 100% feedback so dont want to lose this ,can anyone tell me what I can do ,I have sent 2 emails today to the seller but still no replys

  • Ask at your bank for a copy of cheque (FREE) & send it to seller. You are right though only seller can cash a crossed cheque so maybe get them to check with there bank in case they forgot they got it or partner/family member cashed into seller's account for them. I have had this before where helpful hubby has cashed it without telling me.

You will also probably want to start a dispute through ebay for goods not received. You can only get a maximum of £105 back, though. See this page for details.

You might also want to tell your bank the cheque was lost in the post. Cheque payments can be reversed in some circumstances if you act quickly. It may be worth a try.

You have paid and your cheque has been cashed so do as has already been suggested and talk to your bank today. Tell them what has happened and ask them to help you by getting a copy of the cheque, keep in contact with the seller be polite but firm that you have paid and can prove it.
