Looking at all your lists, they look great. But don't you spend loads of money eating different meals all week?

Not really. We spend about £45 a week on food.

The idea of meal planning for me is using up what we have in and making the food stretch as much as possible.

We have chicken 2 days in a row but that will all come from 1 chicken. Stirfry veggies are value ones at 66p and SP noodles at 8p a packet. The salad is basic, lettuce, cucumber, grated carrot and apple. Fish & Chips is from the chippy and we get a large cod and chips for £5.00 which feed all 3 of us. Pork is a reduced joint and will do a curry too, so will freeze the remians for using later. Strong cheese so you dont need alot with 2 tins of beans for the 3 of us and bread is reduced. BBQ is what we have in from a few weeks ago when Tesco had their Posh burgers and sausages half price and I stocked up for the summer. Rolls also reduced. Ham is decent ham and wont cut corners on this unless reduced but love good quality ham, served with the basic salad as above and a baked spud.

I'm trying to cut back on my food bill, and find it easier using the same sorts of meats, but just mixing them up a little. This is rather boring and I needed some new ideas, but a week of sausages, fish, chicken, soup etc - wouldn't that not cost a bomb?

It doesnt cost a bomb if you make larger quantities of the meal and freeze the rest for another time. Eg cook enough for three meals and freeze two.

I usually have batches of chilli/ bolognaise/ meatballs/ sausage hotpot/ chicken casserole/ etc in the freezer. The costs of these for the whole meal inc pasta/rice/veg for me are:

    chilli(using beef steak mince) 49p/portion
    bolognaise(using beef steak mince) 45p/portion
    meatballs(using pork mince) & pasta 39p/portion
    sausage hotpot(using finest sausages) 50p/portion
salmon, new potatoes & petit pois 54p/portion
    Butternut squash soup 36p/portion
    Tuna macaroni cheese 46p/portion

These are the only meals I've costed up so far.

So it doesnt have to be expensive if you plan it well, make the meat go further (by bulking out with veg/ oats/ lentils/ beans/ etc), and use your freezer ;)

angelnikki - poisonous pudding pie is something i had when i lived at home. The reason its called poisonous pudding pie is because it always contained baked beans which always made my dad have the smelliest farts lol hence the name.

unfortunately it doesnt have a recipe its just a bung it in recipe the only things it does always have is a mince base and a potato top like shephards pie, however the potato is pre-cooked and sliced not mashed with creme fraiche and cheese on top then chucked in the over till golden.

just as a guideance in the last one it contained
mince, tinned toms, tom puree, a stock cube this is the base i always use.
then this bit changes all the time
baked beans, carrots, parsnips, peas and onions.

it really is yummy and alot lighter than shephards pie.

hope this helps but probably not lol

Only just done my meal plan for this month, it all went to pot last week, but back on track now. DH likes his curries and likes taking them to work to have for his lunches, so when I make indian, chinese and mexican dishes with rice, I always make a few extra 'ready meal' portions for the freezer. Tonights beef curry is in the slow cooker and already smells lovely, although the sauce looks a little thinner than usual, can always thicken it with cornflour I suppose :) Quite chuffed, because this week the cabbage, green beans and potatoes will be coming from the garden, so not spending as much on veg this week :T

Monday – Beef Curry, Rice & Naan
Tuesday – Steamed Salmon, Dill Sauce, Green Beans & Potatoes
Wednesday – Sausage, Mash, Cabbage, Carrots & Onion Gravy
Thursday – Pork Chop, Egg, Chips & Beans
Friday – Turkey Korma, Coconut Rice, Cucumber & Onion Relish
