royal mail - 'standard parcels' service

why do royal mail offer this service? why not just incorporate this into a signed for service?
my mate sold 4 laptops and he insured all 4 for £500 each.... and all 4 havent beenm delviered?
so obviosu the buyers are pulling a fast one?
meaning he will be out of pocket for at least £2k
even though he will get the refund/comp from RM
its just stupid for this service to exist...

Maybe the consignment they were in went missing?
Maybe the van was hijacked?
Personally if I send something of any value I will always pay for sepcial delivery to ensure that I get a signature.

ive also had a few parcels go missing through this method....0 -
A package I sent using that service was damaged in transit, would have been better if it got lost as I had to pay to pick it up with another courier and refund the buyer.
I won't be using that again.

You are far better to send via a courier than standar parcel at least its fully trackable i use these guys and UPS collect and deliver >
