Toshiba Equium wireless wont turn on

Hi, i'm trying to sort a freinds laptop out it's a toshiba equium L40 10U, the problem is the wireless capabilities, the switch on the front wont light up, and as such won't connect to any wireless networks.
i've been on the toshiba website and installed the relavent drivers to the laptop however this makes no difference.
I've ran the wizard to try and connect to my wireless router at home, however this still doesn't work.
i'd be grateful if anyone could provide some solutions.
