sorry about that scheming gypsy got myself in a tizzy
i decided to try and install avast but it wouldn let me connect to internet so i decided oh bugga it, i'll not bother so i restored my pc to restore point i created before putting on avast, seemed fine untill my hubby went to go into his word documents which he uses a lot of and each time he tried /and me it just said that the actual document we were looking for didnt exist so i have set his documents to open with wordpad for the time being i know its prob a simple explanation but me being simple dont help much ....i hope you can though
thanks0 -
Can you not re-restore the PC forward to just before Avast was installed.
Also dont uninstall programs like that...
Go to Start Control Panel Add/Remove Programs in Windows0 -

so the docs are there it just can't find Word to open them with?
could be that the file association has changed from word to something else or you've managed to uninstall Word.
do a search for winword.exe and see what it finds.0 -
thanks mr skint
i restored it to just before i put on avast, then found out there was the problem with word, so i restored it to yesterdays checkpoint but i must admit i never uninstalled avast first do you think i can get my documents back on0 -
system restore shouldn't delete files. have a look in the recycle bin and then do a seach for *.doc and see what it finds0

Do a search like this....
Start, Search, All Files and Folders, click More advanced options, and
enter any info as below picture, now hit search...

Ok are there any there that you recognise I mean the file name you gave the documents, If so right mouse click them and choose restore...
And also go to Windows explorer, finnd a word document in My documents
or where ever you save them and right click Open With and choose program
and then select word from list and put a tick in always use this program.....0
