My daughter has somehow broken the screen on her laptop. Looks like there is a big flower screensaver! She never backed up her pictures file and would like to try and retrieve them if possible. The laptop still loads, and when you hit the start button you can only read the left hand column...nothing else. Is there anything we can do?
Thanks in advance for any help!

hi,
You should be able to use an external monitor on the laptop if its just the screen thats broken.0 -

Good Point!
Alternatively, if the laptop is completely gubbed, remove the HD and buy a HD caddy and fit it in there. You can then use it as external storage.0 -
Seconded. Just to add that I've currently got a Dell laptop in whose owner decided to smack the screen and broke it. £110 for a new screen and its only 6 screws for the plastic trim, hidden under rubber feet, and 8 screws and two electrical plugs holding the panel in. Takes all of 30 minutes to change them over.0

I was lucky enough to claim and get a new one on my house insurance!
Can the old one be attached to the new one to tranfer the file? If so, how do you do it...what cable do I need. As you can tell I am a novice! TIA0 -
If you have a new one then I would definitely do what I suggested above.
A HD Enclosure can be bought for buttons.
Insert the drive from the old laptop and you have the extra storage.
The files you are looking for will still be there so you will not need to copy them anywhere.0 -
Thanks for the help.... will give it a go! I take it this is easy to do?0

It should be. My boy did it when his laptop died and it worked fine. It is still working.
You just need to make sure you buy the correct Hard Disk enclosure as they are available in different sizes.
Laptop should be 2.5" I think. Can someone else confirm please?
