Replacement Netgear wireless router/modem

I had to return my old one as it refused to power up. Now I cannot get the new one to speak to my laptop. I have changed the MAC address to that of the new router, still no joy. Any ideas?

If you mean open the admin web thing on your laptop, have you tried going to http://192.168.1.1 on your laptop?

Try also 192.168.0.1. Username should be admin and password is just password.

Does the laptop have a manually configured address or were you doing it automatically using DHCP?

    What's DHCP?

I did the set-up as I did first time round, by going into the web address you stated, as it is the only way o amend the MAC address.

Now, the network names and MAC addresses match, but it still wont work....

Trying all that, just wanted to answer your last question.

I am online at the mo using my BT modem. When I say it doesnt work, I mean they dont talk to each other and i cant operate wirelessly. I can, however, get on the net using the Ethernet connection from Netgear to laptop.

On with my old BT modem at the mo cos that is the only way I can stretch to the sofa!

I did look to see if it could be uninstalled, thus to 'forget' the old settings.

No joy there, so the only thing I could do was put in the setup disc, do the settings again, put in the new MAC address (which updated the PC card settings)

Network names and all other info matches, but they wont talk to one another!

I think Im going to give up for this evening and start fresh tomorrow.
  • hope this of some aid to me as I also got the netgear wireless with no internet access
