NTL Broadband networking

Bought a new laptop, also bought a Linksys wireless G broadband router, tried to network it with a ntl modem (broadband) on old computer (both XP). Laptop says it is connected but can't actually get on the internet. Internet connection fails on old computer when it's all connected up.
Any help?

    Hi Salli9,
I have just finished setting up the same configuration: NTL Broadband modem...Linksys G router and everything is now working OK.

First make sure that your laptop has connection to the net via the modem.
Connect your router internet port via a network cable to your modem
Conect the laptop via a network cable to one of the ports of the router
    Now do the following:

I would advise you to setup WPA as it is far more secure than WEP, to setup WEP or WPA can you open Internet Explorer and enter 192.168.1.1 in the address bar logging in with the default u/n admin p/w admin

Once in this setup page can you goto the 'wireless' tab, in here is a sub tab for 'wireless security' can you set the 'security mode' from 'disabled' to either 'WEP' or 'WPA Pre Shared Key'.

In here there will be an option for you to enter a key/passphrase, can you enter one as long as possible but one which you will not forget.

    Setting up WPA:
Can you enter a key/passphrase in the box provided, one as long as possible but one you won't forget.

    Overview:
When you are using WEP or WPA you will be required to enter the key/passphrase when attempting to connect to the wireless network.

Note: Please ensure that both the routers firmware and your wireless adapter drivers are upto date.

    Best Regards

you need to turn on Internet connection sharing (ics)

    http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/sharing.htm

and are you using Zonelalarm firewall ? (it does not support Networking )

you can try downloading and using Sygate instead if so

try turning all firewalls off for a second (router will protect you while you are doing this....) on both PC's, this includes the built in Windows Xp one !
