Help! How can I get a new card?

I have about 6000 pounds on high interest credit cards and want to transfer my balance to a 0% card BUT I am living and working in Japan at the moment and can't find a card that will accept people living abroad. I am from the UK but don't pay tax there at the moment.

Where do your statements currently get sent- UK or Japan?
If you have a UK address for the purposes of delivering statements use that address when applying. Otherwise you have no chance forget it.

Assuming you can apply with a UK address, it sounds like you want to apply for one of the online-statement cards - Egg, MBNA to mention but two. No credit card issuer checks, or asks, where you pay tax.

Of course, if you can't apply with a UK address, you are snookered for a UK credit card, as Chadsman already said.

Thanks for the advice - I have an address I can use in the UK so I will try an online application using that.

Are you on the UK electoral register at the address you want to use? Being on the electoral register helps tremendously with credit card applications
