Hi
Flying from Birmingham via New Jersey to Las Vegas on the same airline.
When will I have to complete immigration procedures?
On arrival in New Jersey or at my final destination of Las Vegas?
My luggage will be routed through to my final destination.
Thanks

In NJ. You will have to clear immigration, collect your bags, clear customs, re-check your bags. Welcome to the wonderful world of US travel...0

Yes you will clear immigration and Customs at your first point of entry, but you won't have to re-check your bags as such. You will have to claim them, take them through customs and deposit them back, usually on a nearby conveyor belt.
At Vegas you will arrive at T1, the domestic terminal, where you just pick up your bags and head for the taxi or shuttle.0 -
Coming back (if it's the same route) your bags will be checked right through.0

This is especially true of the major airline and low cost airline combination. Of course, travel with just one airline and your chances improve. A little...0 -

Well yes, true.
But if this is the case then the answers for the outward journey are wrong - it would be necessary to check in again fully rather than just sling on the conveyor belt after customs.0
