poll tax demand after 14 years

Help please. My partner has just received a demand from a collection agency for nearly £500. When we looked into it it was outstanding payment from a poll tax bill from 1994 when he lived in a flat but was unemployed at the time. Can this debt still stand or can we challenge it due to the length of time. He has not heard anythung about it other than this letter and I am concerned that it mentioned bailiffs!!!!!!

I always thought that debts couldn't be chased after 6 years unless there was contact before the 6 years was up. Take a look at this for further info http://money.uk.msn.com/guides/asktheexperts/franceswalker.aspx?cp-documentid=78082710

I think you should seek proper advice on this as certain debts owed to the government, either local or national, are treated differently from other debts as they have their own Acts of Parliament.
Found the information I was looking for: http://www.bdl.org.uk/images/25_liab...tation_act.pdf
If you have a pdf reader with a word search function look for the word "poll" or simply scroll down.
Anyway contact the National Debt Helpline for proper advice to see if it's statute barred.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)0
