Cost of extending size of windows

We have just bought a house and two of the bedrooms have small windows (its an ex council house). Does anybody have any idea how much approx it would be to extend the length of the windows (say, by about 3 feet) including the cost of new double glazed windows?
Its my first house and I have no idea of building costs. Thanks.
