BARCLAYCARD BT HELP/ADVICE NEEDED

in Credit cards
On the 21 Oct I did a bt on Barclaycards web site. However I wanted it to go into my bank account and there is no provision on the site to incorporate sort code and account no. Rather than phone them I just entered my debit card card details and expiry date thinking it will still get to my bank account.
Their system accepted the details and my Barclaycard was debited with the amount to be transferred. Time went by and the bt never got credited to my bank account and the amount was never returned to Barclaycard. I have been into my bank and they say as I only entered my card details it would be impossible for the bt to be credited to my bank account and on receipt would be returned to the originator.
I checked with Barclaycard today and still no sign of the money being returned. Also I checked the debit card details with them in case an error may have been made but that was all ok.
Despite of what my bank say I was very, very concerned the bt may be in someone elses account.
Also I am surprised their system did not stop me giving my debit card details.
Any advice or help greatly appreciated.
Phillip
PS. Barclays have given me a £20 refund of charges as a gesture of goodwill.

This could have been a 16 digit 'Visa' debit card for it to be compatible with what the system was expecting?Their system accepted the details and my Barclaycard was debited with the amount to be transferred.
Nothing significant in this because debiting your account does not mean the money has actually been paid out, does it?Time went by and the bt never got credited to my bank account and the amount was never returned to Barclaycard.
The main point is that the payment never 'arrived' - an attempt could still have been made to 'send' it.I have been into my bank and they say as I only entered my card details it would be impossible for the bt to be credited to my bank account and on receipt would be returned to the originator.
They might be correct, I suppose. Except that you seem to have used the debit card number ro intitiate a balance transfer. The way I assume this works is that Barclaycard's system tries to identify the 'issuer' of the presumed credit card number you have given. I think it's about the first 6 digits that identifies a credit card issuer - and each such issuer would have an associated collection account number and sort code to convert the request into a BACS payment with just the 16 digits as an internal account reference.I checked with Barclaycard today and still no sign of the money being returned. Also I checked the debit card details with them in case an error may have been made but that was all ok.
Despite of what my bank say I was very, very concerned the bt may be in someone else's account.
So would I be by this stage! Also I am surprised their system did not stop me giving my debit card details.

I would suggest the following....
1) Try to establish whether the first 6 digits on your debit card does in fact correspond to any particular card issuer/bank? If it does then a payment ought to have left Barclaycard and be in the associated collection account. If not then I woud assume that Barclaycard could not have sent it, and it will still be with them.
2) If the money did leave Barclaycard then you may need to go further, and contact the receivng issuer/bank to ask them if the payment is in 'suspense'? 'Suspense' should happen whenever a payment like this cannot be reconciled with a known account number.
The slim possibility exists however that your debit card [both the partial element identifying a credit card issuer and the rest] actually corresponds to someone else's credit card account. If that has occurred then you would have to chase up the person [via their issuer, I suppose] to ask them to agree to its return as it would have been paid to them in error. They would not be legally entitled to receive such a payment I imagine but retrieving payment would be another matter!
Good luck.....under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam0
