Thinking of Getting a House Bunny

I was told by the RSPCA that they did not like giving out rehoming rabbits unless there was a garden and instead the lady I spoke to, suggested a hamster and I have to say he was a loving and as friendly as the rabbits I had growing up. Hamsters do make fab pets and if you get a Syrian they can be quite big and they are very tame and loads of fun.

One the travelling front, I found some of my rabbits loved it and would be happy in the car but one I had seemed quite uncomfortable being in a car.

I have to agree with Shineyhappy about the outdoors being best for rabbits. We thought of a rabbit until SIL got one which is indoors and he has a massive cage and tbh he smells! We recently got some Dwarf Hamsters but I dont recommend these as even though they are soooo cute and you'll fall in love with them as soon as you see them, they are 2 small to be operated on if they have an accident and therefore need to be put down - as we discovered yesterday I do think though that maybe a normal Hamster, a guinue pig (they are lovely - got 2 of them) or a chinchilla would lovely pets for people that are not always in. oh and also if you dont mind rats they make fab pets cuz you can teach them tricks!

keeping rabbits indoors nowadays is considered by many people to the best option for their pet. My rabbits have never smelled alot. They are very clean animals.

I have 6 bunnies, one of which currently lives in the house. If you have a house rabbit, you need to be careful of wiring as if they see it, they will eat it!!

Other than that, they make great pets, would definately advise on rescuing as approximately 33,000 bunnies end up in rescues every year!!

You should check out Rabbits United forum. Excellent advice on there, including a post about balcony bunnies. You can grow grass out there and make it rabbit proof.

Rabbits are socialable animals & ideally should be kept in pairs. The days of having a lonely rabbit at the end of the garden in a hutch are gone so rather than get a rabbit cage buy a large dog crate, you can get them in all colours now and they have far more space that the stupidly sized coffins you can pick up at pets at home! My rabbit doesn't smell at all, he lives in a crate on vetbed which we just chuck in the washing machine once a week. Litter training was quite easy too, he learnt within 2 weeks to go in his tray. House rabbits are perfect pets as far as I'm concerned!!
