I can't answer the first part of your post but I can answer your ? about the sky. The only way to record from sky whilst watching another sky channel is to have Sky+.

The Liteon is the better drive by a long way ...If it doesn't fit, force it; if it breaks, it needed replacement anywaySarcasm helps keep you from telling people what you really think of them

I sent my Liteon back as it was too noisy and took and age to spin up disks.

I'm totally confused now, basically I want to use it in the same way as I use my VHS recorder but also be able to play multi-region dvds0

I got the 4kus 230 about 8 months ago. A good replacement for the vcr. I couldnt make my mind up at the time what to get. I wanted all the extras ie videoplus, hard drive, dvd-ram but these models were too expensive and how often did I use videoplus, maybe once or twice in six months. Anyway opted for the 4kus and very happy with it. If you want a straight forward replacement for a vcr thats easy to use then you will not go wrong with this model. Picture quality is very good but not used it in the 6 hr mode so cannot comment on that one. Easy to make region free with a few pressing of the remote buttons and entering a code.0

I would go for the PYE dvd recorder being sold at Asda for £84.99 which is the same as the Philips 610 which was sold last year for £99.99 this a good model and with a good known brand .0
