Student Loan - Unemployment

I've recently started paying off my student loans having passed the minimum earnings threshold; I’ve been deferring payments since 2000. I have the old type of loans, having started my course in 1996. My question is, can I re-defer if I lost my job?
Thanks.
Thanks.
