Quote to replace boiler with combi

Different strokes for different folks. I am sure you find a combi to be satisfactory for your situation. It just makes me laugh that so many people think a combi is THE solution to all heating set-ups.
J
It is for ME and that's the important bit.
Yes if it breaks down then you have no heating or hot water or both. But the same goes for a standard boiler and storage tank.
Yes I did know that the 937 has an inbuilt storage tank thanks very much, one of the reasons which makes it so big. I have researched my choice intensivelyWhy are they the 'Devils Spawn'?
For the exact reasons canucklehead mentioned.
1) Less space required as you do not have to hide a bulky storage tank
2) The hot water NEVER runs out
3) Cheaper to buy (a decent sized water tank costs £1000 alone)
5) Cheaper to run as you only heat the water you use0 -
My OH is a Corgi gas engineer and we are in the process of changing our old system to a combi but its funny saying that no Corgi's would have a combi themselves as my OH was of the same opinion as jblack until he started installing Alpha's and now, apparently, thats exactly what we are getting.
Trippy - £1000 for a powerflush is a complete joke - that is more than BG quote and that is saying something. You should be looking at anything from £300 to £400 and it takes a full day to do a proper flush (not a couple of hours like some have been quoted here).
£4700 - jeez, if you lived in Kensington & Chelsea maybe but East Lancs  !!!0 -
..........
1) Less space required as you do not have to hide a bulky storage tank
Yet your having to put yours in the loft?
2) The hot water NEVER runs out
I have a 210 ltr tank. It would not be possible to empty it of hot water under normal use.
3) Cheaper to buy (a decent sized water tank costs £1000 alone)
£800 non-trade
5) Cheaper to run as you only heat the water you use
Arguable. A Combi doesn't have time to get up to heat if it's stop-start, on-off. Meaning less efficient.0 -
210 litre santon unvented indirect cylinders are £470+vat
found them to be as good as the megaflow brand
for the amount of showers and bathrooms i would not go for a combi system,a system boiler with a unvented heater is the best way to go.....but you can only advise a client, if there choose there want a combi i always ensure i have a signed disclamerHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Erm, no it doesn't. A standard tank tends to have have a standard immersion heater element.
Erm, yes it does. Last November my Potterton combi diverter valve went. I had hot water but no central heating. Then in February my hot water stopped working but my central heating was fine. My boiler needed a new diaphragm. This boiler is about 7 years old and has only experienced issues in the past one year.

A combi boiler is smaller than a hot water tank and standard boiler combined
2) The hot water NEVER runs out
I have a 210 ltr tank. It would not be possible to empty it of hot water under normal use.
How much space does that take up and how much does it cost to keep that hot all day long?
3) Cheaper to buy (a decent sized water tank costs £1000 alone)
£800 non-trade
You forgot to add the cost of the boiler. A hot water tank and boiler costs more than a combi boiler.
5) Cheaper to run as you only heat the water you use
Arguable. A Combi doesn't have time to get up to heat if it's stop-start, on-off. Meaning less efficient.
It's still cheaper as I don't need 210l heated when I only want 25l.0 -
Roses,
I can see that you are clearly a lot more informed than myself, after all I've only been in the job a few years. You have the best boiler in the world. I should only fit Combis. All homes should have Combis fitted as standard.0 -
Good, glad you finally agree :beer:0
