Hi MSE'S,
I just got a new HP compaq 6720 and the task manager says i am using..
740MB of PHYSICAL MEMORY
and 32% of CPU usage.
This is a brand new laptop with 1 GIG or RAM
so do i need more ram or should i complain to HP?
THANKS:beer:

What OS is installed?
Vista will typically use as much memory as it can get hold of. That's normal behaviour, and doesn't necessarily mean you need more.0 -
Depends what applications you intend to use.
I can't see what good complaining to HP will do, you knew how much RAM was in it when you bought it surely? It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0 -
What made you look at the Task Manager? Is it performing as you would expect it to? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Is it Vista basic? If so, it looks like you could have 1gb, but a large chunk of that memory is assigned to the graphics card. As there is no aero, you can change the graphics memory in the bios to the minimum amount, such as 64mb. This will mean you have 960mb or there about. If it still feels sluggish, upgrade to 2gb. You may find that there is 2 x 512mb installed so you would need 2 x 1024mb.0

Just 1 more question....
What RAM does the HP COMPAQ 6720 take and how safe is it to install it yourself?
Thanks :dance: I am great , yes I am

CLLC i think the ram you need is DDR II SDRAM, you amy need to double check this yourself by going to the site where you bought it from adn look for ram or you download the crucial applicationNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

Thanks for this, this situation is a bit difficult...
I actually got it free with a modem internet from the carphone warehouse and it never came with any instructions what so ever
but if i look on the HP website and look at the specification i can't understand what it says about RAM:dance: I am great , yes I am

If you download the system scanner from Crucial, it should tell you what sort of RAM you need:

Memory would be stadard DDR2 667MHz SODIMM. This is about £30 from online suppliers.
Crucial USA shows http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=BFDE4BB6A5CA7304 as suitable for your laptop.
I have not seen a 6720 yet but I have a 6710 at work. All you do is remove a panel on the back, has a picture on it that looks like the RAM. Then put the new RAM into the slot the only way it will go at an angle of about 30 degrees and push in and down. Replace the cover and all will be well.0
