Transfering VHS tapes to DVD

I have a large collection of VHS tapes recorded off the TV. What's the best-quality-reproduction way to go about transferring them to DVD?
VHS recorder output (how? Via SCART?) to PC video capture card?
VHS recorder output via SCART to DVD recorder?
VHS recorder/DVD recorder combo?
I would like to be able to edit-out adverts etc, but nothing more sophiticated than that.

Thanks for you thoughts.

    Hi Charlie,

I have my VCR hooked up to my DVD Recorder via SCART.
I've had no problems transfering the video's to DVD - I use the 3hrs setting on my DVD Recorder.

If the specs of a recorder list 48mhz or above sample rate or 10bit recorder, think of 80's cinema, your recording at the same quality, not sure whethter a scart or s-video cable is better.
you get a good recording from capture card or dvd recorder, I looked at a LG dvdrecorder with 54mhz quality if you see one with 20bit recording it must be marketing hype or they believe george lucas needs it for his new star wars.
A dvd recorder would be less fuss than setting up a capture card & configuring software, probably a better approach for recording tapes.

Video isn't really my thing but look ofr 10bit or 48mhz & you'll have a quality recorder, 8bit is like not tuned in quite right, 12 bit you've technically doubled the tele bandwidth & I'm not sure they've invented the displays yet.
