Best Professional Indemnity Insurance for PC Repair Business?

I do in-home PC repairs and tuition. At present I have no liability cover. I'm not clear about exactly what insurance to get, or who to go to.

All good ideas appreciated.

    Do you need it?

You need to think in terms of "what's the worst that could happen and how much would have to stump up to put it right?"

I do need it. The worst that could happen is that someone has a PC failure after I've worked on it, and loses valuable data. Worse still, if a PC I've repaired causes fire or electric shock. Odds of these are happening are low - I work to high standards, but the consequences could be severe. On top of that there's our society's litigation culture to deal with :( .

Which you could mitigate by backing it up before you work on it.

Low risk results in low premium :D

In a round about way, I'm suggesting that you clearly define what you want insurance for. If you say "everything" then you'll pay for it. However, insurance is meant to cover "disaster" and/or other things that you cannot avoid or mitigate.

So if you define your risks, it should help to define the cover you want/need.

As to who to go to .... sorry, no specific recommendations. Google ... and then the hard-slog of sifting through the results :o

You need public liability insurance, and not professional indemnity insurance. Go to broker. You can combine it with employers' liability insurance if you have employees.

    Kind Regards

  • I have been looking into the same thing recently myself. Directline seem to be pretty good, I was initially quoted by hiscox although directline quoted a third of the price. I hope this helps :)
