I hope someone can help. My sisters and i have been unable (todate) to sell our parents' house following a bereavement/probate etc. The current insurer would only insure it until August as it is unoccupied - we had hoped it would be sold by then. The house is now empty so contents insurance is not required.
Having real problems finding an insurer who will cover an unoccupied property - does anyone know of a company that will? Thx.

Hi Have you tried "second home" insurers. There are plenty of brokers for these in places like the Lake District etc. They are used to covering palces that are unoccupied for longer periods of time. You may have to camp in the house on occasions to ensure that it is occupied sometimes.0

If you google " insurance for unoccupied properties" the names of plenty of brokers firms come up so it's just a case of you finding one that covers your particular circumstances. There is a particular one that is used by solicitors for their clients, that your probate sol could have mentioned to you.
Most will insist that you or someone known to you makes checks on the property from time to time - is there a neighbour whom you could trust to have a key? 0 0

            Hi,
We have just arranged unoccupied buildings insurance through the Halifax. It for the property being unoccupied for more than 60 days but less than 12 months.
Its not cheap though, £41.77/month but you can cancel it at any time without having to pay a penalty!
 Hope this helps
