Has anyone noticed that in the UK Gmail is now Google Mail due to conflict over the trade name Gmail, so all new UK accounts will no longer be @gmail.com but will be @googlemail.com
I'm glad I got mine before it changed. If anyone wants a Google Mail account I have 100 invitiations.

Yes, noticed today. Apparently all applications after 19th October have been allocated @googlemail.com accounts rather than @gmail.com.
The number of invitations for distribution seems to have been reduced from 100 to 20, as well.0 -
Mine has not been reduced, I've still got 100.0

When I wanted a yahoo.com address rather tha a yahoo.co.uk , I just told them I was in the US and then after registration I wentb into options and changed my settings to UK content
Wonder if it's the same for google if you really want a gmail address rather than googlemail0 -

and it's widely reported that mail to both address@googlemail.com & address@gmail.com arrives regardless of which you are allocated. There are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't
In many cases it helps if you say where you are - someone with local knowledge might be able to give local specifics rather than general advice0 -

The only problem with that is if you tell everyone that your email address is xxx@gmail.com and they receive mail from xxx@googlemail.com it's going to confuse them and their filters.
You are allowed to change the from field in gmail but last time I looked that was only available if you selected "English (US)" as your language (which seems to give you more options than "English (UK)" )0 -

I have tried opening another account to see if I could get a gmail account rather than a googlemail account, but it did not work. It came up as a googlemail account. Anyone know how I can get round it.0 -

Does mail from that account come up as from googlemail or from gmail?
My old account sends messages from gmail even though the account says googlemail at the top-left (I guess becuase I'm accessing it from a UK computer)
You could try setting up an account via somewhere like http://www.guardster.com/subscription/proxy_free.php to hide your location
I just tries it but it wouldn't let me access the invite in my yahoo mail because it doesn't support SSL with the Free proxy service0 -
Hi all . Has anyone tried using google talk with their gmail account yet , or is it not available in the uk yet? TIA0

I could not get it to work either.
I opened a new yahoo account on the USA yahoo.com website and tried again and it still came on as googlemail rather than gmail, so I don't know if it is recognising my computer.0
