DVD-RW stopped working

I have a problem with my dvd-rw drive. In the past I have recorded successfully to blank dvd, but now when I try I get the error message "no recordable drive found". However, recording to CD still works.
Any advice as to how to fix this would be much appreciated. I am running windows xp and my dvd-rw drive is an HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H21N.

sounds like the drive is failing , not the most expensive thing to buy now and is a very easy straight swap for the existing unit , no software or drivers to installEx forum ambassador

Might be worth doing the "Uninstall the drive via Device Manager then scan for hardware" to reinstall the existing driver, before buying a new one.0
