Pay a cheque in to Yorkshire Bank on the Monday and it'll be Friday before it's cleared. ie, they take 3 working days, not including the day of deposit and day of clearance.0

cheque banked on a monday, clearing house on tuesday, payers bank on wednesday, they can late return it on thursday, sent in post so reaches payees bank friday, so payees bank can't say the funds are technically cleared until following monday - most banks will let you withdraw funds on the Friday but the cheque can still come back after that as if it has been returned we all now what the post is like - the Great British Banking System at its best - antiquated or what?!0

YorkshireBoy wrote:I'm not sure what you mean about "technically" cleared, because any cheques I pay in on Monday show as cleared on Friday morning on Yorkshire Banks internet banking site. If they're telling me online (so technically, "in writing") it's cleared on Friday, then that's good enough for me.
its because of the post thing - they'll let you take the funds on the morning of the 5th day but if the cheque has been bounced by the payers bank & its got held up in the post, once the receiving bank has rec'd it they can still debit your account with the said amount even though you may have withdrawn the funds on the 5th day0
