Question Time

Could someone tell me how can I pay with my HSBC Maestro card online?

I have been using Barclays Visa Debit, simple to use because it has a long line of 16 digits.

My HSBC Maestro has 18.... (6 +12)
On top of that at the bottom 'CARD NUMBER' has 9 digits...

I know the card number should consist of 16 digits, could someone tell me which 16???

Thanks
Fred

My Yorkshire Bank Maestro card has 19 digits and I enter all 19 for card purchases using this card.

I assume you've tried entering the full 18 digits on yours?
  • yep i have,

the last 8 digits (in the line of 18) are the account number,

My friend has an HSBC maestro and he always enters all 18 and it works fine. You either have some other problem with the card, or maybe the particular website you are trying to use just isn't set up for more than 16 digits.

I also have an HSBC Maestro and I always enter all 18 digits and it's fine. Perhaps the site you're buying from doesn't accept Maestro.

Is there a field for issue number? Even though it says "switch/solo only", you should enter the issue number from your card.
You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.

I have an HSBC Maestro as well & have never had any problems with using the full 18 digit number as long as I also provide the issue number in the relevant box.

I think that 16 digit numbers are usually for credit cards.

On your Maestro card, I think the first 4 digits identify the card as Maestro/Cirrus (though I may be wrong!), the next 6 digits are your sort code & the last 8 digits are your account number. Therefore the number needs to be 18 digits long to provide all of the information to the vendor.

Ignore the 9 digit card number at the bottom as this is not account information that you need to provide.

If it still doesn't work I would suggest you contact HSBC as it could be that your card has been temporarily blocked for some reason.

    tjs10 is correct.

The first 4 digits are the card type (6759 in this case), the next 6 are your sort code, the last eight are your account number.

Ignore the "Card Number" as it is marked, the long 18 digit number is the one you need.

If your card has been blocked, card services should be able to help - 08457 404 404
