    hi just wondered!

    would this work with vista?
  • That does look very very cheap!

I have not had much joy with Epson in the past though. Their printers usually have a lot of technical issues.

been after one for a few weeks, finally got one today in with the new school shop items
  • I vaguely recall someone on another forums (can't recall which unfortunately) commenting that there were several "generations" of the compatible cartridges, and you needed to know which ones worked in you particular version of this printer. As it's second-hand information I can't vouch for the information or what the exact compatiblity issue is, but it might be worth a google first if you were going for the printer. A quick look at my usual supplier shows them from about £1.50 but labelled as "Generation 4".

Printer was launched 12 months ago at £60. At the time the RRP of the cartidges was £6.99 each but you could get a special pack with all 4 in. Separate cartidges for the various colours.

Epson compatable currently availanle at 365ink for £3.60 with 5 cartidge pack for just under £16.

At time it got good reviews with a couple of places awarding it "best budget printer" even without the scanner etc

all epsons printers made since last april usually need generation 4 cartridges as epson changed the hardware then and the compatible cartridges stopped working in the printers so the compatibles had to be updated to generation 4 to get them working again

This is whe report from Which

The printing of text documents on The Epsom Stylus DX4400 is excellent but it isn’t a terribly quick process. The print quality of photos, however, is particularly poor and each picture takes in excess of 15 minutes to print.
Scanning quality and speed is much more reasonable and the photocopying capabilities, although not great, are just about as good as you can get on a printer of this type.
Direct printing, either via Pictbridge or directly from a memory card, is not available on this device and there isn’t a display to either preview prints or check the status.
While the overall power consumption is pretty healthy, this device is a little noisy and might drown out a conversation. The tray capacity is only 80 pages, which should keep you going for a while but is considerably smaller than other models in this class. The overall ease of use is poor.

    Pros: Reasonable scanner
Cons: Very slow to print, poor quality photos, no direct printing option
