Parents on Income Support do not even receive Child Benefit even though every rich person in the country with children does! That is to say , Child Benefit is given to them , but then taken off their weekly Income Support. Ridiculous when you think about the reasons it was devised in the first place.

I want to clarify this as I don't want to be repaying a huge overpayment down the line!
I am on IS,I am currently recieving CB for 3 children (2 from Sept), also recieve CTC and DLA for my youngest from mid may.

At what point should I have had the CB taken off me? I have spoken to all the different depts about exactly what I am being paid by who,as I am paranoid! Should CTC be taking off the amount I recieve in CB? I really don't understand this!

A parent that stays at home solely taking responsibility for the welfare of their children is doing a very difficult job and, when on benefits, for a pittance! They are not lazy scrounging bums, but unpaid workers. Why then are they the ones to blame rather than the absent parents?
Anyone claiming WTC is not receiving full Housing Benefit.

Income Support when bringing up children means extreme poverty, to say that the needs of a family are covered by the amount given is a complete joke. Taking away maintenance money which comes from the absent parent is not encouraging responsibility and not supporting the future generation.
We all get just one childhood and that shapes who we become. Children growing up on benefits deserve to be able to eat as well; but I'm afraid in alot of cases all around the country they are being deprived even of that.

As a working parent, I agree that all children deserve to be fed and given shelter and looked after - these should be basic human needs and rights, however, I believe that benefit babies and free housing has encouraged more and more people to roll out of school into bed with the anyone, to get pregnant and get a house etc paid for and to not pay a penny for it. Not with no intention of "moulding" the future generation( just take a look at the news these days and look at todays teens which mostly are from deprived "one parent families". I have never claimed ANYTHING off the state and have paid into it since I left school I even attended college through my employer to get where I am today, not by sitting watching Jeremy Kyle and Fern and Phil during the week! _ I have paid for all my childcare, all my sons requirements, all his needs and wants and I don't expect anyone else to pay for it either. Would the state pay my mortgage if I had another baby and gave up work - no i doubt it. My son starts school in Sept will he get free dinners and will I get his childcare paid for - erm no. I think this country has gone mad and the csa is a joke who end up penalising honest hardworking people to pay for the generation of idles that are out there, who can effectively work, claim all kinds, pay no housing or council tax and then still screw NRP for most of their earnings.

However, jpmummy the NRP still has a responsibility to maintain their children rather than the state and not all PWCs claim benefits - I never did.

agreed - but not all pwc financially support their children either - they leave that to everyone else. however, imho I believe that there are people who know everyway round our benefit systems and actually are better of than us working "mugs"

Could I ask again whether the post stating that I shouldn't be getting child benefit as I am on Income support is correct or not?

But the question is whether it is reduced because income support is in payment. It certainly used to be deducted, however that may have changed.

Child benefit is a payment that can be claimed by anyone who qualifies, whatever their income and savings.

Don't worry, they can NOT take your CB away from you

You don't seem to understand!!! If somebody is getting Income Support they used to deduct the amount of child benefit that the person was getting from their income support. What I don't know, is if this has changed and they allow you to keep it.
