Multifuel stoves and LCD TVs - good mixture?

Hello, Hope this post is in the right place. I don't often leave the pets and old style boards!

I am thinking of having a multifuel inset stove fitted. I currently have a blocked up fireplace, but I think I will be able to install the stove into the fireplace gap with no flue liner - it will just use the existing chimney.

At the moment I have a lovely big (ish) television on my mantelpiece above where the fire will be. Will I be able to keep my TV there, or will I cook/melt it?

I realise this may be a difficult question to answer, but even if you could just say if this is an absolute no-no or if some people manage it?

Thank you!

Multifuel stoves do kick out alot of heat.

Where are the cables for the TV run?
U need to keep a minimun distance of (i think) around 18inches from the top of the stove to any flammible substances.
Maybe worth checking through the operating manual on your TV and check what the operating temperatures are for the screen. might help give some idea. Sorry I cant be more help.

TV's don't like temperatures above 90 degrees. If the mantlepiece is big enough it will deflect the heat. It's not a definate no-no. Have a look through http://www.avforums.com

I keep my pc/router about 2 foot away from my log burner and its fine. The router did get very hot at one time but that was because I put too much pallet wood in and laminate floor buckled its fine now

I put a small rug on the floor and used less wood pallet wood burns very quickly and now its fine as I use less wood and covered the floor. It only slightly buckled but got back into shape. The router got very hot as it was close to the burner as my desk is next to the fire place where the burner is. The burner sits on a thick slate

Dont fit in on a chimney breast that has a open fire/log burner as the walls get warm even on the adjacent chimney

Anything much above room temperature will shorten the life of the TV, avoid if above around 35C.
The actual temperature the TV is exposed to depends on a number of factors, but may even get hot enough to melt the plastic casing.
