Cheapest way to South Africa in October

My parents are celebrating their 40th anniversary in October. I am looking for the cheapest way to get to Durban by around the 8th/9th October. (Am on a shoe-string budget as I work for a non-profit org 
!)
Thinking about spending 2 to 3 weeks in total in SA and would really like to "pop down" to Cape Town whilst there. Going to CT first or last is no problem, as long as I am in Durban by the 8th/9th. I am beyond the youth-fare age limit so that won't help...!
Anyone got any tips/suggestions?
