Car insurance renewal, uhh..

I've just got a new(er) car which is roughly the same as my previous one (same engine size etc.) but I'm thinking about getting comprehensive cover, whereas my previous car had TPF&T. My new car value is around £2000 - is it worth just leaving it on TPF&T?

Also my current insurer (Quinn Direct), which I have 2 years NCB (not protected) is rather expensive compared to a couple of others, but I cannot get a protected NCB - if I change insurer, will I need to build up a NCB from scratch? I'm 23 and only been driving for 2 years, so would appreciate any saving possible!

Any advice please!

Depends really on whether you can afford to replace it.
If you have an accident which is your fault or partly your fault then you won't be covered so you could potentially lose the car.

    No.
You send them your renewal notice from Quinn and get 2 years NCB.

    Thanks for the reply.

I will probably go for fully comp. I've seen a good quote from Direct Line - £452.55 /year (£100 less than Quinn). This doesn't include legal protection - does this matter? It adds £20 if I request a hire car on my cover.
  • The thing to bear in mind too is when is your renewal date? If you are going to be renewing in the next 4 or 5 months and this will get you up to 3 years NCD with your current insurers, it may be worth waiting for your renewal date before changing insurers.

Legal protection is a good idea if you do not know the system.
In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move.

I agree with Oscar. My son recently bought a new car which he needed to insure on a comprehensive policy. His old car was only TPF&T. He had about a week or so to run before his renewal date and Quinn changed the policy over free of charge. They also came up cheapest for the renewal too.

I've spoken to Quinn, and they won't do that- or even price match!

Has anyone ever used Tesco Value insurance? It seems that the strings attached are that you have to THEIR recommended repairer only, surely you can claim this back on the policy?
