Pay day and depressed already

I hate myself at the minute, its summer holidays for me, though im working 4 weeks out of the 6 as we need the money as most of you will know my OH is outta work (though he has an interview tomorrow.)

So pay day today and we needed a few things we normally wouldn't. I made sure last night we could afford them before i was paid today and we could. So plan of action done for what needed doing today and in what order, all going good until the end.

Last on my list, food shopping, made a list and stuck to it, did really well. OH decides to get £10 cash back and silly me agreed to his lets have a subway for lunch, i jumped at the chance as we haven't eaten out in like forever. Had a voucher as well, came to £7.50.

Then later on tonight he had to drop off something at his aunties, i couldn't be bothered going, so stayed at home. He comes home with flowers and choccies for me to say thanks for everything i have done the last 6mths supporting both of us.

Lovely gesture, but not the cost, he spent £10 in total. So we've blown £20, well we have £2.50 left from the £10 used at subway and technically I bought myself flowers/choccies as its my wage that has gone into the bank today.

To make matters worse i haven't coloured my hair in months so budgeted that into shopping and its horrible. Mean't to be a dark brown, it looks black, i absoultely hate it, its the 1st time i have ever cried over my hair colour.

Now until next Tues when OH gets his £120 benefit we have £14 left (after all the bills come out in the next few days).

I wanna cry, i wanna fix my hair, i know its only hair, but i can't bare to look in the mirror. I was gonna go to the hairdressers and see what they could do, but i can't afford it now.........

  • Its so tempting to blow money in the first few days when you get paid, I get paid tomorrow and know I will find something I want to buy. So keeping all my cards and cash at home to remove the temptation.

As for your hair, would it tone down if you used a clarifying shampoo daily for a few days? It works with mine (my mobile hairdresser CLAIMS to always use the same colour but I have seen her emptying several different end-tubes into the dish sometimes-very OS but at my expense!) when it comes out darker I do as above-my hair is completely white under the colour, has been since my early 20's so I have porous hair and perm. colour but it does fade.

You have some money so the situation isn't quite as dire as it could be... that said, sometimes we just want a quick win and what better than our hair looking good. My worst hair disaster I ended up with green, orange, white and black streaks (it's normally a chestnutty auburn colour) and all because I'd gone swimming after dying my hair.

I've overdyed (gone too dark) and found that washing two or three times with a normal / dry standard shampoo (or a clarifying type), helps to remove some of the excess colour. Sadly it also takes some of the gloss away too.

It was lovely of your OH to buy flowers and choccies. At least he appreciates all you're doing.

    Hugs.

I dont know you - but im sorry so to hear that your having a hard time. Im sure some more people will come along with some better advice soon, but i just wanted to say try not to get too upset about it - easier said than done i know, but you need to stay strong. At least you have got your bills paid and some food in the house to see you through. Good luck to ur OH in his interview.

ps - if its any help i know you can buy colour stripper for your hair from boots - although to be honest im not sure how much it is - maybe you could use your points if you have any?

I'm naturally dark blonde hair but like to be a light blonde for some reason! I rarely colour my hair as it's expensive but in the summer the sun lightens it and I also use a colour enhancing shampoo and conditioner. My only luxury and even that I buy in Tesco on offer! I damaged my hair and my finances when I kept having it coloured so now don't bother. I've got to the stage where it's in good condition so I'm not worried if I go back to being my natural colour.

  • Thanks so much for the posts. I feel so dumb for complaining about a hair colour i hate, especially when after all it is just hair and like you said flower08 at least the bills are paid and we've got food shopping done.

Its just one of those things i was looking forward to doing, its weird how colouring your hair can make you feel so different. Except this time, it made me cry, i cannot believe i cried over hair dye really.

1 good thing is that i won't be embarassed at my summer job as the people don't know me, to be honest i took the risk to colour my hair because it was the summer break so that if the worst happened i wouldn't have to face people i work with at my school.

Deep in debt - I sooo wish i could stop colouring my hair, i started when i was about 17, but that was just wash out colours, wish i stuck to those really. I just cannot bare it when the colour starts to grow out and you get the terrible re growth, they never seem to make enough hair dye just to do that bit, i know the packet tells you what to do if you just wanna re touch the roots, but then you'd waste so much of the hair dye its just better to re do your whole hair. I haven't had my hair coloured at a hairdresser for 2 years, just done it myself at home.

Hi Continualdiamond - just wanted to give you big hugs :grouphug: and to say about the hair - give head and shoulders (original formula) a go.. it always faded out any overcooked colours for me if I ever got into trouble with going too dark and I've been dying my hair since I was 13:rolleyes: and been every colour under the sun  .. the only other option I know of (and yes have had done  ) which is expensive and a real no no NO! to be honest (for more reasons than money alone) is having it stripped at hairdressers and I really really dont recommend that one I promise you (if you ever want to know how you will look when you are 70+ for a few seconds - give it a go!) Try the H&S if you can - wont get rid of completely but will help it on its way to a shade lighter;). Take care EB XX

I do my own roots in between my mobile hairdresser. My secret was to get it done to a colour I liked (I use Koleston 77/0,dark medium blonde-makes my grey hair a warm brown!) and then to buy a tube of the professional stuff she uses and some 20 vol peroxide. The tube is £6.95- I either get it from the hairdressing stall of my local market,or from a hairdressing supply init if not-and the peroxide is £2 a bottle. I get around 3 touch-ups with the colour (you have to fasten the top v v tightly and exclude air from tube to keep it fresh) and around 6 from the peroxide-works out less than £3 per 'touch-up' and means I can leave 6 weeks in between having it done all over. Even then my hairdresser doesn't always do the ends-if you do them when it's not needed they can get 'colour-blocked' which makes them look dead. I mainly concentrate on the area around my face and part the hair over the toop and down the sides using the proper flat colouring brushes. Have been doing this 10 years now and it works a treat-the secret is to use the right colour and a good make, like Koleston.you mix 20 ml peroxide into around a third of the tube of colour, mix it in well and apply, leave for 30 mins before washing out. I have even done this on holiday abroad when the timing has meant I am out there with grey roots!

Forgot to say, rmove the green from hair in swimming pool disasters with a bottle of cheap ketchup! Works a treat.

Hi Continualdiamond, we all have those moments where enough is just enough, things get on top of us and it can be the smallest things that push us over the edge. I have read your posts before but don't often post, i do enjoy them though as i think you are a huge inspiration to a lot of people because you seem to try so darn hard. It's hard working in a school and then to go home, take care of the family and not even have much of a summer hols is tough going, so i say cry if you want to.

I really hope your situation improves soon, how is your OH's job hunting going? I think that in a round about way, it was a lovely gesture by him, as they always say, its the thought that counts. Perhaps next time he could do it more mse though and pick the flowers, although preferably not from someone's garden!
