Hi i am currently working full time for about 13.5k a year!
I was offered the oppurtunity to better myself in my current role by doing a degree over 3 years at evening school 1 night a week (which is fully funded).
I will gain student status again as I will be studying a degree.
I am 24 and I live with my boyfriend can anyone please let me know what i would be entitled to even though I am still working full time??
I think ill be able to stop paying council tax and then my boyfriend can claim single person discount. would i be able to claim things like adult learning grant?
I know ill get a student card so I can have the student accounts and discounts etc.
Will my tax code change or will i not be entitled to anything as i work full time?
Thanks for your help.

i'm pretty sure you won't get the council tax discount unless you're a full time student (sorry) - you may be on a full time course but i'm not sure as it's only one night a week. your tax code will probably not change - the only time students have a different way of doing things is when they only work in holidays and are not going to earn over the threshold.
things to look at are the access to learning funds at your particular institution and a standard student loan from the student loans company.

If you are only entitled to the part time grant then you will not get CT exemption. I also doubt that you would qualify for most student bank accounts, as the majority are for full time students only.
Your tax code will not change.

Are you absolutely sure that you're doing the whole of a degree in 3 years by part time study of 1 evening a week? I don't think that's possible unless you already have credits towards it from previous study. Apologies if I've missed something.0

Hi - dont know if you will be entitled to the council tax discount as its only part time. However if you are it will only be a discount - not an exemption. Not sure what the exact % is tho.
Hope this helps - you should be able to find out more of what general things your entitled to by asking the college or uni that you will be studying at.Biggest Loser Weight Loss: 13 / 20 lb0 -
A part time course will not get a council tax student disregard - you wont meet the criteria regarding the number of hours needed to qualify.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

You can do Cert Ed or PGCE like this, which is fully funded. If it's that, all you'll get is a student loan and the usual student perks. The one evening a week may well be four hours and is the taught contact time, not the study time for doing the coursework.0 -

You don't get a student loan unless for full time study. Even in this day and age, 1 evening a week is not full time study!0 -
Ive just finished a degree and that was 3 years full time! I don't see how you can be doing a full degree in 3 years by only doing one night a week? What degree are you going to be doing?Money Saved for a house deposit so far = July 2008 £3331.09, August £4396.40, September £5,048.37 (Target = £9,000 by July 2009) 56% there already!:j
If I have helped you in any way, please thank me!
