1car1.com problem! Help!

hey all, i've run into a problem with 1car1.com over a vehicle i hired! If any of you could advise how to go about solving this problem!

Basicaly i hired a car that was on special from them on the 18June 2008 @95/per week. The vehicle was originally hired from the internet and i hired it for 1 week from the 18th of june to 25th june. On the 24/25th june i phoned my local branch to ask if i could extend the rental for a further week taking me from 25 june to 2 july. They said yes and the rate was £95 again. On the 2nd july i rehired again for another week at the same rate of £95 this time from 2july to 9th july. Basically i've kept doing this every week until today 22nd july when i had 2 guys from 1car1 come and say they want thier car back because i owe them money!! I almost fell over and promptly phoned the branch to find out whats going on!! The manager says to me you owe use £380!! So i'm like what are you on about i've been renewing this car ever since i got and i've been paying for it. He then tells me that the special at which i got expired on the 1st july. I then say if thats the case then everyweek that i call to extend why doesn't anyone tell me that i can't have it at £95 anymore and why do you then keep charging me £95 if its the incorrect rate??? He says they tried contcting me several times via phone and email and i say fair enuf i lost my phone but i will check my email. I check my email and i only have 1 email on the 17th saying this:

Good Morning Mr ,

We have tryed calling you but it seems like your phone is switched off.

We have tried extending the hire you are in for one more week
but the system will not let us extend as the rate you are on has expiered on
the 1st july.

The new weekly prize for the Vectra is now at £180.-!

Can you please get in touch with us as soon as possible to let us know whether
or not you would like us to go ahead with the extension.

If not you would have to return the vehicle as soon as possible.

Thank you very much

Regards

If you called them on the 16th, and they agreed the price of £95 again, then you have a verbal contract with them, so should not have to pay them any more money.

Saying that, it's not their fault you lost your phone, so you should have given them a new contact number, so you might be required to pay the higher price for the last week, as they DID try and contact you.

They certainly can't change the hire price after the week has passed, so because their email was only sent on the 17th July, they can only charge you for the last week at full price.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • i know someone that problems with this company - they charged them twice  and had to go through their credit card to dispute it.

Well if you have their email sent on the 17th July (AFTER you'd agreed to the final week at £95), then how can you owe them money? POLITELY point this out to them. They had your address, so could have called round to your house and dropped a letter off if they couldn't get through on the phone. I believe writing a letter and posting it through a letter box is still known "technology" nowadays!

ps - why pay nearly £100 a week for car rental?? You could have bought something old for £200 with an MOT and taxed it for a couple of months for less than that!
