can anyone advise us of a bank account which we can use to manage household bills, which has a cheque book and which will accept indeed require 2 signatures?

most people strongly advise against this - it ties your banking up with other people and therefore with other people's problems. it is usually easier to get each bill in a different person's name, or in multiple names, so that everyone is responsible for something.

    don't do it.

if you have a joint a/c you will be financially linked to the other person... so if they have a credit problem, either now or in the future then it will adversely affect your credit rating. And its a lot easier to set up than close down.

Simply acccept responsiblity to actually pay half the debts each... and then have a reckoning after each bill comes in.
