Cheap train ticket cardiff to B'ham Wed 26Oct

Any tips for the cheapest ticket direct from Cardiff to Birmingham on Wed 26th Oct? Tried Virgin but it's £36.

This is my local line so I guess I can help you a bit here:

Central Trains run direct services to Birmingham New Street where a single is £22 (£23rtn) when booking 3 days in advance (subject to avliability) or £28 (£36.80rtn). Book your ticket on the business section of thetrainline.com (you don't have to be part of a business) to save £5 on tickets over £20 - so would cost £17 or £23 - by entering the code 5OFFBIZ. Virgin do not run any trains between Cardiff and Birmingham.

However, be aware that there has been a freight train derailment earlier this week at Cheltenham (which is on your route) and so is playing havoc with the trains - and so they will not be back to normal until Wednesday.

Tip: In the midde of the Central Trains train is the old first-class carriage, which is no longer first class - so anyone can sit in the nice big comfy chairs though you don't get any free food and drink. A lot of people don't know this and just turn away presuming it is first class.

Remember - if 4 people are traveling, use GroupSave where 4 travels for the price of 2 - but you can't buy these tickets online, only at the station.
